Frequentely Asked Questions
What is canyoning?
Canyoning is an outdoor adventure activity that involves descending rivers on foot through areas with uneven terrain, natural pools and waterfalls, often in stunning natural surroundings. Participants overcome obstacles using techniques such as jumping into the water, rappelling, zip-lines, natural slides, downclimbing and guided abseiling. It’s a unique opportunity to explore magical places that would otherwise be inaccessible. Portugal’s mild climate makes canyoning an especially enjoyable activity throughout the year.
Does Canyoning Portugal provide transportation from my accommodation?
Yes, we provide transport to and from your accommodation within the Porto metropolitan area and, depending on the selected program, also from Braga, Gerês National Park and other locations along the route between Porto and the the canyon place.
Because our logistics base is located in central Porto, we’re able to provide convenient and highly competitively priced transport for your canyoning experience.
Do I need a special level of fitness or technical ability to practice canyoning?
Any healthy person without previous canyoning experience can join our easy and moderate level programs. Our more difficult itineraries are designed for participants with solid physical condition and prior experience in canyoning or other rope-based activities, such as rappelling or climbing.
Do I need to know how to swim to participate?
No, the equipment we provide offers natural buoyancy, and we also have life jackets available for non-swimmers. If you feel less confident in aquatic environments, don’t worry, our guides are highly experienced and will support you at all times.
What is the best time of year to go canyoning?
Canyoning in Portugal is possible all year round. The climate is generally mild compared to northern Europe, and we adapt equipment and guiding techniques to the season, ensuring comfort and safety whether you join us in summer or winter.
What is the minimum and maximum age to participate in our programs?
The minimum age ranges between 6 and 7 years old, depending on the itinerary and conditions.
